The Inquiries practice group specialises in assisting and advising in coronial inquests, representing NSW government agencies before royal commissions and other inquiries, assisting at other ad hoc forms of inquiry, and providing advice to agencies concerning investigatory powers.

Key areas of expertise: Crown representation; burial and next of kin disputes; inquests (assisting and advising Coroner; representing interested parties); investigatory powers; Royal Commissions (representing State agencies before; jurisdiction; powers); Special Commissions of Inquiry (assisting; jurisdiction; powers).

Significant matters

• Assisting the State Coroner in the Inquest into the disappearance and suspected death of Theo Jean Hayez.
• Assisting the State Coroner in the Inquest into the death of Dwayne Johnstone.
• Representing the interests of the State of NSW from a whole of government perspective in the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.
• Representing the interests of the State of NSW from a whole of government perspective in the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
